What Won’t a House Washing Service Clean?
A house washing service cleans exterior surfaces like siding, soffits, gutters, walkways, and decks. It will not clean interiors, and a careful company will decline surfaces that are damaged, failing, or unsafe to wash, such as rotted wood, loose siding, lead-paint surfaces, or anything that needs repair first.
What a house washing covers
A standard exterior house wash covers siding, trim, soffits and fascia, the outside of gutters, plus connected hard surfaces like porches, walkways, and decks when included. It clears dirt, pollen, algae, mildew, and cobwebs using a surface-safe soft wash. The goal is a clean, even exterior without harming any of it.
That is a lot of a home’s outside, which is why a wash makes such a difference to curb appeal. But knowing the edges of the service matters just as much as knowing what is included.
What it won’t clean
- Interior surfaces. House washing is exterior only; inside walls, floors, and windows are a different trade.
- Damaged or failing surfaces. Rotted wood, loose or cracked siding, and peeling paint should be repaired before washing, not blasted.
- Lead-paint surfaces. On older homes, surfaces with suspected lead paint need a certified specialist, not a pressure or soft wash.
- Roofs that need repair. A failing or leaking roof needs a roofer first; cleaning comes after the structure is sound.
- Active interior mold or leaks. Water intrusion and indoor mold are remediation jobs, not exterior cleaning.
- Anything unsafe to reach. If access is genuinely dangerous, a responsible crew will say so rather than risk it.

Spraying failing siding, rotted trim, or lead paint can force water into the wall, spread debris, or create a hazard.
